Pezenas - Large beautiful, lively market town, good shops, restaurants, medieval cobbled streets.
Narbonne - Small attractive town, good shops, old pedestrianised narrow streets, old Palace of the Kings of Majorca, canal, port, beaches, water park, safari reserve, museums, theatre, restaurants.
Perpignan - busy Mediterranean town with lots of shops, several yachting ports, beaches, museums, theatre, restaurants.
Limoux - pretty town with river Aude and attractive square, famous sparkling wine, good restaurants, carnivals, weekly market with monthly antiques. Carcassonne - busy capital of the Aude with the stunning walled Cathar city which must be seen, shops, museums, theatre, golf.

Cuisine - Good local specialist restaurants from 10 euros for 3-4 courses with wine. Wild boar and hare are often on the menu and there is excellent inexpensive regional wines and direct Chateaux tasting nearby.
